Clostridium difficile
Clostridium difficile is the most common cause of non-epidemic diarrhea in long-term care settings. The incidence and severity of the disease have been increasing in recent years. Long-term care residents are specifically at risk of acquiring infection and developing disease and complications, due to high rates of antibiotic use, close contact with other individuals, and advanced age.
