Urinary Tract Infection: Diagnosis (part 1)

Urinary Tract Infection is a Clinical Diagnosis

  • In residents of long-term care facilities, the rate of asymptomatic bacteriuria (15-50%) is much higher than the rate of urinary tract infection requiring treatment (< 1%).
  • Therefore, a positive urine culture is meaningless without clinical information.
  • A negative urinalysis and culture can exclude urinary tract infection.
